This lampshade and that particular shade of blue were two of the first things I purchased and set into place in the re-imagining of Dar Ambrosia. The blue has become a defining element and recurs from the front door, through the house and up to the terrace. It has also been incorporated into our logo – thanks to the creativity of a talented friend – which is an extrapolation of the letter A in combination with the symbol for A in Arabic. I love the logo and cant wait to use across products as things develop.
In the absence of a completed interior, I thought I would like to share some of my thoughts, plans and ideas behind this project. Anyone who has spent time reading a few of my posts will know I have a weakness for alliteration — so indulge me here again as I work around the 3 R’s.
Rendevous: Dar Ambrosia is quite simply a wonderful space to gather, meet and re-connect with friends and family. Rent out the entire property, have breakfast served on the terrace (it is all about the terrace) and simply plan your days as they unfold. If you would like some activities scheduled into the holiday speak to me and we can put something together just for you – a day hiking in the Moroccan countryside, a quiet moment in a private hammam, a traditional meal served at sunset.
Retreat: If you have an idea about a retreat you would like to run , speak to me. We can see what we can put together with our space and your skills.
Recharge: If you have a tour group – or any group – whose travels you are co-ordinating and you are looking for a quiet place to recharge after the madness of medinas in places like Fez and Marrakech – Assilah is perfect. The bijoux (all three or four streets of it) medina is easily navigable and allows everyone a degree of independence that doesn’t always come easily to travellers in the cities.
For those that visit I would love to help you discover corners of northern Morocco that will create memories for you – whether its committing to that carpet purchase, showing you where I bought those fabulous lampshades, or simply sharing my favourite coffee spot.
A few practical details: Dar Ambrosia is a 6 bedroomed/6 bathroom dar (house) with an open central courtyard. There is ample room for you to find a quiet corner, as well as generous communal spaces to gather.
I have designed the downstairs dining room and the upstairs terrace with the thought of communal gathering and sharing in mind. I really hope that many a long evening will be spent around the dining room table at Dar Ambrosia setting the world to rights!
There are three terraces which will again be configured to suit your needs. The plan is to make the top terrace adapt to anything from a 6 metre table for dinner, to a clear space for sunset yoga – or both!!
Really this is, as I keep saying, a work in progress, and I am hoping that you will all come and visit and help define the space that will become Dar Ambrosia!
