A Post-Lockdown Travel Wish-List!
I havent been doing much other than yoga and baking the odd loaf of bread lately as I felt like the {moroccan} carpet had been pulled out from under my feet. But this week I have decided to re-focus and re-energise, and with that in mind I thought a little travel inspiration would be in order.
Our time in Morocco is generally spent in and around Assilah and Tangier, but there are so many places we have yet to visit and I can’t wait for the time when we can do that. I think when that time does eventually come around, I will grab hold of it with both hands and savour every moment!
To inspire my Moroccan Wish List I have been reading about some of the places visited by Rasa , who is the person behind the blog “Blondie in Morocco”
Here are some of her recommendations. I have included links to the posts for more information.
THE ATLAS MOUNTAINS:
I love the Atlas Mountains – we havent spent a lot of time there and I dont know it very well, but it is definitly an area I would like to explore a lot more. Spending a day in a village and discovering places a little off the beaten track appeals to me – this Day Trip to a Berber Home is a perfect addition to your Marrakech itinerary if you want to spend a day beyond the medina.
This time last year ( it feels like 100 years ago) we did just that and drove out from Marrakech to Imlil where we stayed at the lovely Douar Samra
There is a lot of talk about how this pandemic is going to change how we live, and how we travel. I think the one positive thing that could come out is a more mindful attitude to travel – sounds a little cliched I know, but if travel is about supporting small businesses, individuals and communities and not just about airlines and hotels, then it can have a positive impact on more peoples lives.
MOVING NORTH with Rasa, and her recommendation to go Chasing Flamingos in Morocco: Moulay Bousselham, despite being relatively close for us as it is only about 80 km from Assilah, is a place I have never been to, and the thought of puttering about in a boat with binoculars and birdbook in hand is actually quite appealing right now!
(birdwatching? . . . yikes, I must be getting old!!)
Finally heading towards the Middle Atlas, the village of Bhalil looks fascinating. In this post on Blondie in Morocco you can read about her visit to the to the cave houses of Bhalil, a journey of discovery that is definitly off the more well-trodden tourist paths of the area.
Images like this make me want to pack my bags and head for the hills . . .
hopefully sometime soon!
