Description
The TUAREG SHAWL takes its inspiration from the striking monochromatic black and silver palette of the Tuareg Cross – a piece of jewellery tradtionally made by nomadic tribes in the Sahara and now found hanging in jewellery shops in the medina. The simple motif is striking and symbolic, and if like me you are prone to bouts of superstition, its the perfect piece of jewellery for travelling! This shawl is woven in black and white sabra silk which, when woven together the black and white threads become a shimmering pewter – perfect for throwing around your shoulders when you are wearing that Little Black Dress at a festive function.
The dimensions of these shawls make them versatile – large enough to throw over your shoulders on a summer evening, or to knot as a scarf on colder days – the choice is yours.
Handwoven by Association Darna: Darna translates into “our house” and this reflects the values of the association which provides a safe space for vulnerable women and children in Tangier.
Woven by the women weavers of Darna, each shawl takes one person a full day at the loom.
